How agile is Agile?

In recent years, we've seen many organisations embark on their Agile journeys, and there's no denying the benefits from a true agile approach – the embrace of test and learn principles, iterative delivery over big bang releases, putting the customer voice in the centre etc. Yet, a nagging question lingers: Are these organisations actually achieving the benefits they expected or hoped for?

Far too often, "doing Agile" means adopting a seemingly rigid methodology that doesn't quite hit the mark. Why? Because it's not merely about ticking Agile boxes; it's about a profound shift in mindset.

🧠 Mindset Matters: Agile isn't a checklist; it's a way of thinking. It means putting the customer front and centre, welcoming change as an opportunity, and fostering a culture of relentless improvement.

📋 Frameworks as Guideposts: Agile methodologies like SaFE are fantastic frameworks to steer transformation, but they're not the destination. If you treat them as a set of rigid rules, they quickly become "JAM" (Just Another Methodology). The true magic happens when you embrace Agile principles and use these frameworks as guiding posts.

🌟 Unlocking True Agility: To really reap the benefits requires shifting mindsets across your organisation. It's about empowering teams to collaborate, make decisions, and continually adapt. It's about a culture that thrives on change and values customer feedback above all else.

So, next time you hear "We're doing Agile," remember, it's not about what you do; it's about how you think. True agility starts with a shift in mindset, and the methodologies? They're just the tools in your Agile toolbox. What's your experience - has Agile delivered?
